The visceral reaction of the so-called Ethiopianists to the alleged plan to introduce the Gadaa system in school curricula is only part of the strategic ignorance they have always wanted to perpetuate in themselves.
This strategic ignorance, this deliberate refusal to know, is their way of othering by denial. It is an act of erasure through chosen blindness.
This choice to remain ignorant about the other is a disavowal of the ethical responsibility to be with, or to live with, the other. It is a rejection of the possibility of co-habiting in a shared world.
It is an act of blinding oneself to the other's presence.
It is hatred pure and simple.
But no surprises here. They just made our point that they are nothing but a bunch of Oromophobic bigots.
