Abiy's War is a war on Peoples' Democratic Aspirations!

Abiy's war on Tigray--just like his wars on Oromia, Wolaita, Konso, Sidama, and others--is a war against peoples' right to self-rule.

It's a war on peoples' insistence on the right to democratic election. It is a war conducted in reckless defiance of the constitutional limit to the term of office of an elected government. (The interesting thing is that Abiy is orchestrating his war on democracy by hiding under the internationally ascribed badge of "a reformist" PM as a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Poor Nobel! Little did he know that the prestige of the award in his name is going to be deployed behind Abiy's war to destroy democracy, to defy rule of law, to threaten peace, and to perpetrate genocide in Ethiopia.

True to his character as a counter-revolutionary insurgent that slipped through the revolutionary moment's door (#Oromoprotests2015-2018), Abiy has long drifted away into becoming a reactionary that has hijacked the reform people have been seeking. Abiy has become the very enemy, in deed the nemesis, of democracy, human rights, and rule of law in Ethiopia.

As it stands now, especially after the expiry of his term of office on the 5th of October 2020, Abiy's war is an open war against democratic aspirations of 112 million Ethiopians. His war on Tigray is only an instantiation of his general and continued war on democracy. In Tigray, it is an anti-demicratic war to undo the election conducted in the region, a war to depose a democratically elected government and replace it with his own handpicked stooges who don't even live in Tigray.

Abiy's wars have been wars of the lawless regime against the lawful ones. It is the war of lawless bandits in Finfinnee against a legally constituted goverment in Mekelle. It is a war of the lawless against the thin semblance of the rule of law and constitutionalism in the country.

Invariably, in all the instances mentioned above--be it in Tigray, Oromia, Wolaita, Sidama, or Konso--Abiy's wars have shown themselves to be genocidal wars, always preceded by ethnic profiling, ethnic cleansing, total securitization of peoples' identities, and unspeakable brutalities inflicted upon groups before a full-blown military assault.

Unlike what some uninformed western journalists make it to look like, this is not a war of a few politicians locked in power struggle. No, it is not. In fact, it is anything but.

This is a war of a regime that has overstayed its term of office waging a war on peoples' right to democracy

This is a war to silence the popular demand for democracy.

Above all, Abiy's war has been a war against Ethiopia's oppressed nations who had pegged their hope on the constitutional promise of a multinational federal order within which they practice a measure of democratic self-rule and self-determination.

Thankfully, it is a war he has lost before he started it. A war without a cause is already a lost war. A war against democracy is an unwinnable war. A war against people is even worse: it is a crime. And it shall be prosecuted as such in due course.

የጦርነቱ ባለቤቶች፣ 1) አብይ አህመድና ብልጥግና፣ 2) የትምክህት ኃይሎች (የቤት የለሽ ፖለቲካ አራማጆች፣ እና የዘመኑ አዲስ ነፍጠኞች)፣ 3) ኢሳያስ አፈወርቂ ናቸው። እነዚህ ኃይሎች ጦርነቱን የሚያካሄዱበት ፍትሃዊ ግብና ዓላማ (cause) የላቸውም።

በጋራ ያላቸው ቁሳዊ ፍላጎት፣ መሬት፣ የተፈጥሮ ሃብትና ገንዘብ (በአጠቃላይ ኢኮኖሚውን) የመዝረፍ፣ የመሸቀጥ፣ እና የመቆጣጠር ጉጉት ነው።

ይሄንን ቁሳዊ ፍላጎት ለማሟላት፣ ሶስቱም ወገኖች፣ አብይን፣ በጉልበትም ሆነ በሸፍጥ፣ በሴራም ሆነ በቅጥፈት፣ በሥልጣን ላይ ማቆየት የግድ ሆኖ ይታያቸዋል። ይሄንንም ለማድረግ ሲሉ፣ በትብብር ጦርነት ያካሄዳሉ። (የስግብግቦች የዘረፋና የንጥቂያ ጦርነት [A robbers' war of brigandage, a war of plunder and looting]!)።

አሁን እየተካሄደ ያለው ጦርነት፣ ኢኮኖሚውን ለመቆጣጠር ከሚሻ ስብግብግብነት ባሻገር፣ ሌላ ዓላማና ግብ የለውም። (ለነገሩ ዘራፊና ሌባ፣ ከዚህ ሌላ ዓላማ ከየት ያመጣል?) ከዚህም የተነሳ፣ ጦርነቱ ፍትሃዊ ግብና ዓላማ (just cause) የሌለው ሆኗል።

ከቁሳዊ መሻት ባሻገር፣ ሶስቱንም የጦርነቱን ተዋናዮች በአጋርነት የሚያያይዛቸው ስሜት (sentiment)፣ ለጭቁን የኢትዮጵያ ሕዝቦች (በተለይም ለ"ሌሎቹ" የኢትዮጵያ ሕዝቦች) ያላቸው፦
ሀ) ምክንያት-የለሽ ጥላቻና ፍርሃት (phobia)፣
ለ) ትምክህት፥ እብሪትና ጀብደኝነት፣ እና
ሐ) ቂምን የመበቀል ፍላጎት ነው።

ከዚህ የተነሳ፣ ሶስቱም፦
1) ዴሞክራሲን (ምርጫን)፣
2) ሕብረ-ብሔራዊነትን፣ እና ፌደራሊዝምን፣
3) የሕዝቦችን በራስ የመተዳደር መብትን አምርረው ይቃወማሉ፣ ለማጥፋትም ይፋለማሉ።

ምክንያታቸውስ?

1) ዴሞክራሲና ምርጫ ከተካሄደ (በቅርቡ በትግራይ እንደተደረገው)፣ ያለ ገደብ በሥልጣን መቆየትም ሆነ በዘፈቀደ ሥልጣንን መጠቀም አይቻልም። በዴሞክራሲ መኖር ምክንያት፣ በሕግና በሕዝብ ይሁኝታ ያልተገደበ ሥልጣን ከሌለ ደግሞ፣ ቁሳዊ የመሬት፣ የሃብትና የገንዘብ ዘረፋን ማካሄድ አይቻልም። ለዚህ ነው ሶስቱም በኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ ምርጫ እንዳይኖር በጽኑ የታገሉትና ምርጫውን ያስቀሩት። ለዚህም ነው ትግራይ ላይ በትብብር ጦር ያዘመቱት። ዴሞክራሲ ካለ፣ ዘራፊና ቀማኛ የሰፈር ጉልቤ እንደልቡ መሆን አይችልምና።

2) የፌደራል ሥርዓት ካለና ክልሎች እራሳቸውን ካስተዳደሩ፣ ስልጣን በአንድ ቡድን ወይም ግለሰብ እጅ ተማክሎ ለግል ጥቅም መዋል አይችልም። እራሱን በማስተዳደር መብቱ ተጠቅሞ አንድ ክልል ምርጫ ማድረጉ፣ የተማከለ አምባገነናዊነትን ለመተግበር ስለማይፈቅድ፣ በእነዚህ ጸረ-ዲሞክራሲ አድመኞች ይጠላል፣ ይወጋል። እራሱን በራሱ ከሚያስተዳድር ክልል፣ መሬትን፣ የተፈጥሮ ሃብትንና፣ ገንዘብን መዝረፍ የሚቻል ስለማይሆን፣ እንደዚህ ዓይነት ክልል፣ ደመኛ ጠላታቸው ይሆናል። እነሱም፣ በጸረ-ዴሞክራሲያዊነታቸው ላይ የጸረ-ፌደራሊስት ቁመናን ይጎናጸፋሉ።

የብሔሮች ሉዓላዊነትና የራስን ዕድል በራስ የመወሰን መብት፣ የብሔሮችን ሰብዓዊ ክብር (fundamental human dignity)፣ የወል አድራጊነት (collective agency)፣ እና የራስን ፍጻሜና ግብ (one's own destiny) መወሰን መብት ከተከበረ፣ ብሔሮች የአገር ባለቤት ስለሚሆኑ፣ እነዚህ ዘራፊዎች እንደልብ እየገቡ፣ ዘረፋቸውን መፈጸም አይችሉም። በዚህም ምክንያት፣ የሕዝቦችን ሉዓላዊነት፣ ማንነትና ህልውና ይቃወማሉ። ለማጥፋትም ይታገላሉ። በጸረ-ዴሞክራሲያዊነትና በጸረ-ፌደራሊስትነታቸው ላይ፣ ጸረ-ሕዝብነትን (ጸረ-እኩልነትን) ይደርባሉ።

በመሆኑም፣ እነዚህ የጦርነቱ ሶስት ተዋናዮች--ማለትም፣ የአብይ አምባገነናዊ ቡድንና ብልጥግና፣ የትምክህትና የነፍጠኛ ሥርዓት አቀንቃኞች (ማለትም፣ ትናንትንና ርስትን አስመላሽ ነን ባዮች)፣ እና አምባገነኑ ኢሳያስ--በዴሞክራሲ፣ በፌደራሊዝምና በብሔሮች ሉዓላዊነት መብት ላይ ውጊያ ለመፈጸም በማሰብ፣ በአንድነትና በትብብር፣ የመጨረሻውን ጦርነት በትግራይ ላይ ባወጁት ጦርነት እየከወኑት ይገኛሉ።

በዴሞክራሲ፣ በፌደራሊዝም፣ እና በህዝቦች ሉዓላዊነት ላይ የተቃጣው ይሄ ጦርነት፣ በትግራይ ላይ ብቻ የተቃጣ ሳይሆን፣ በሁሉም የኢትዮጵያ (ሌሎች) ሕዝቦች ላይ የተቃጣ ጥቃት ስለሆነ፣ ሁሉም ብሔሮች በጽናት ሊመክቱት ይገባል፤ እየመከቱትም ይገኛሉ። ድሉም የነሱ ነው።

Abiy's war on Tigray is a continuation of the war on Oromia and the peoples of the wider South.

It has now become evident that Abiy's war is a reactionary war meant to reverse the gains of years of popular protest to achieve democracy, self-rule, and social justice.

At a deeper level, it is a war of (Abiy's) forces of the rule of violence against the progressive forces aspiring for the rule of law in a multinational federal democratic order.

Ultimately, Abiy's war is a war against peoples' constitutional right to self-rule and to the choice of their own government through democratic election.

It is a war conducted in defiance of, and with a view to suppressing, political pluralism intrinsic to a constitional order that explicitly recognizes several demos (or demoi, to be exact) in the polity.

More concretely, Abiy's war is a war of utter brigandage as he is an ex-Prime Minister whose term has expired and has no constitutional-legal mandate to act in the office he is acting from.

In deed, it is a war led by an illegal regime against the democratically elected government of Tigray and its people. But it is not a war on Tigray alone. It is a war on all the oppressed peoples of Ethiopia as a whole.

the west of the country – far from Tigray – was blamed on the TPLF by Abiy and his supporters. That in turn was used to justify sending in federal forces this week into Tigray. When the Tigray defenders arrested the federal troops – reportedly killing some of them – Abiy claimed that the Tigray region is out of control and that he is trying to save Ethiopia’s “national unity.” And the Western media in deference to the Nobel laureate is giving his spurious version of events undue credibility.

Should we be surprised? War criminals and conmen – from Henry Kissinger to Barack Obama – are often decorated with the accolade.

Nobel-winning Ethiopian PM has overseen country’s descent into barbarity and madness.

The Western media have hailed Ethiopia’s Premier Abiy Ahmed as a “liberal reformer” ever since he rose to power in the East African country nearly two years ago.

Remarkably, despite the chaos and conflict that has accompanied his leadership, the same media tend to portray the mayhem as somehow due to opposition to his benign reforms.

This week, federal military forces have launched operations in a northern region of Tigray. Western media amplified Abiy’s claim that the state of emergency was necessitated because Tigray militia had attacked federal forces first. Tigray leaders say that is turning reality on its head, claiming that they are the victims of aggression sanctioned by the central government in Addis Ababa.

The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) were formerly the main ruling faction before Abiy’s ascent to power. So it is easy in the simplistic Western narrative to portray the latest conflict as a contest between a reforming pro-West PM and a revanchist old regime.

After all, Premier Abiy was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize last year for his efforts to supposedly normalize relations with neighboring Eritrea with which Ethiopia fought a border war nearly two decades ago. He was generally feted as a democratic progressive bringing years of hostility to an end. That “normalization” has yet to produce any meaningful result in terms of restoring neighborly relations. It was more a public relations exercise to burnish Abiy’s image as a benign pro-democracy, pro-peace figure.

I lived in Ethiopia’s Tigray region for eight years including during two years of Abiy’s premiership. I have witnessed the entire country slide into bloody internecine wars between the many nations that comprise Ethiopia’s 110 million population. All this carnage involving thousands of casualties – rarely reported in the media – occurred precipitously after Abiy became leader.

The way Tigray people see it, Abiy, who is alleged to have spent periods of time as an intelligence officer seconded in the US while a member of the TPLF-led former government, is working for a foreign agenda to undermine Ethiopia’s independent politics and economic development.
During nearly 27 years of TPLF-led government following a revolutionary war ending in 1991, Ethiopia was an important strategic partner for Chinese investment in Africa. Much of its impressive development was financed with Chinese loans – not with private Western capital. Although China still remains a top foreign donor.
Only months after Abiy became prime minister through parliamentary horse-trading, Simegnew Bekele, the chief engineer of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam across the Blue Nile, was assassinated. That threw the project for Africa’s biggest hydroelectric plant into turmoil. It was suspected that Abiy and his Egyptian, Gulf Arab and Eritrean allies could have been complicit in sabotaging the prestige project which would have consolidated Ethiopia’s independent development. That project had been initiated by the former TPLF-led government. Abiy’s first overseas trip as new PM was to visit Cairo where he hinted to the Egyptian leadership that the dam would be scaled back. He went on to make disparaging comments about the project’s feasibility.
Recently, Abiy’s government appears to have resumed support for the ambitious dam, thereby riling up the Egyptians who fear it will reduce downstream flow of the Nile River, as well as irking Washington which has backed Cairo’s claims. But given the national fervor among Ethiopians for the dam’s completion, Abiy has had little choice but to appear to go along with it.
Under Abiy’s rule, political violence and assassinations have turned Ethiopia from a once stable, peaceful giant of African development into a basket-case of failure and insecurity.

"ለማን ጥቅም እና ለምን አላማ ነው የሚካሄደው?" የሚለውን በደንብ ማጤን ያስፈልጋል። በሚዲያ ጋጋታ እና በካድሬ ወከባ እናዳንታለል።

የዚህ ጦርነት ጠንሳሽ እና አስፈፃሚዎች ሶስት ሃይሎች ናቸው፦

ዓላማው፦

ህወሃትን መበቀልና ኢትዮጵያ ላይ አሻንጉሊት መሪ(አብይን) አደላድሎ በአከባቢው ፖለቲካ የበላይ ሆኖ መውጣት ነው።

በዚህም ሂደት ሰፊዋን ሃገር ኢትዮጵያ በማዳከም የራሱንና የሃገሩን ጥቅም(በኢትዮጵያ ዋጋ) ማረጋገጥ ይፈልጋል።

2#ተስፋፊ ርስት አስመላሾች

ዓላማቸው፦

ህገ-መንግስቱን በመቀዳደድ የህብረ-ብሄራዊ ፌደራል ስርዕቱን ማፍረስ ነው።

እኝህ ወገኖች ኢትዮዽያን በጠቅላላ አባቶቻችን ያቀኗት ርስታችን ናት ብለው ነው የሚያምኑት። ሌላውን እንደ ሃገር ባለቤት አያዩም። ደስ ሲላቸው ሰፊውን የኦሮሞ ህዝብ "ከማዳጋስካር የመጣ ነዉ" ይላሉ። ሶማሌውን፣ ጋምቤላውን ፣ ጉምዙን ወዘተ መጤ ይላሉ።

ከሃይማኖት አንፃርም አንድን ሃይማኖት የሃገር ባለቤት ሌላውን ተዳባይ አድርገው ነው የሚያዩት። ለምሳሌ ለዘመናት ሃገሪቱን የክርስቲያን ደሴት ናት በማለት ሙስሊሙን እና የሌሎች ሃይማኖት ተከታዮች ከሃገር ባለቤትነት እንዲጎድሉ ሲደረግ ተኑሯል። የዚያ አይነት ኢዲሞክሪያሳዊ አመለካከት ዛሬም ድረስ ሙሉ ለሙሉ አልተቀየረም ማለት ይቻላል። እንደነ ኢሬቻና ጨምበላላ የመሳሰሉ በዓላት በመጡ ቁጥር በሰፊው የሚታዩ ዘመቻዎችም የአካታች ስርዕት እና ባህል አለመኖር ችግር እንዳለ የሚያሳይ ነው።

ባጭሩ ይህ ርስት አስመላሹ ቡድን በእኩልነት ላይ የተመሰረተ የፌደራል ስርዕት ይኖር ዘንድ አይሻም። ትግሉም ለእኩልነት ሳይሆን ለበላይነት ነው።

ህዝቦች እራሳቸውን እና ቀያቸውን እንዲያስተዳድሩ አይፈልጉም። ቋንቋቸውም በየአከባቢዎቻቸውም ሆነ በፌደራል ደረጃ የስራ ቋንቋ እንዲሆን አይሹም። ይልቁኑ የፖለቲካ ችግሮቻችንን ሃጥያት ሁሉ በህብረ-ብሄራዊ ፈደራል ስርዕቱ ላይ በመደፍደፍ የክልል አደረጃጀትን ማፍረስ ይፈልጋሉ።

(ኔሽኖች የፖለቲካ ማህበረሰቦች ሳይሆኑ ትንንሽ የባህልና ቋንቋ ቡድኖች እንዲሆኑ ይፈለጋል። ይህ በቀጥታ ሃገሪቱን የአንድ ቋንቋና ባህል (በመዋቅር ደረጃ) ያደርጋታል። ታሪክ ወደ ኻላ ተመለሰ ማለት ነው።)

ይህን ዓላማቸውን እንዳያሳኩ እንቅፋት የሆኑት እንደነ ጀዋር ያሉ የኦሮሞ ብሄርተኞችና ህወሃት ናቸው ብለው ያምናሉ።

የኦሮሞ ብሄርተኞችን አዳክመናል ብለው ስላመኑ ህወሃት( እና ማሀበራዊ መሰረቱ የሆነው የትግራይ ህዝብ ላይ) ዘመቱ። ይሄው ነው።

ዓላማ፦

የአብይ አላማ ያልተገደበ ስልጣን፣ ዝና እና ገንዘብ ነው።

ስርዕቱ ፕረዝደንታዊ ፤ እሱም ፕረዝደንት ሆኖ እየቦረቀ ከመኖር የዘለለ ለህዝብ የሚተርፍና ለትውልድ የሚሻገር ራዕይ የለውም።

እነ ጀዋርን ያሰረውም ሆነ ይህ ጦርነት ውስጥ የገባው ለስልጣኑ ብቻ ሲል ነው።

እንግዲህ በዚህ አይነት ጦርነት ሰፊው ደቡብ "ምን አገኛለው" ብሎ ነው የሚገባው? ለማንስ ሲል ነው የሚማገደው? እንዲያዉም ከቻለ ነገ ከሚመጣው አስከፊ ነገር አንፃር ዛሬ መታገል ነው ያለበት። ቢያንስ ግን የማንም መጠቀሚያ መሆን የለበትም።

የ'ከሃዲ'ው፣ የ'እኩዩ'፣ እና የ'ጡት ነካሹ' አብይ አህመድ ጦርነት፣ ዓላማና ግብ የሌለው ጦርነት ነው።

ጦርነቱ፣ አንዳችም የሚዋደቁለት ዓላማ፣ የሚቆሙለት መብት፣ የሚሟገቱለት ፍትህ፣ የሚያርሙት ስህተት፣ የሚፈቱት ችግር የሌለው፣ ከንቱ ጦርነት ነው።

ጦርነቱ፣ የአብይን ሕገወጥ ሥልጣን ለማስቀጠል ሲባል ብቻ፣ በሕዝቦች ላይ የታወጀ የእብሪት ጦርነት ነው።

ኢፍትሐዊ የሆነ፣ ሕዝብን ለማሸበርና ለማጥፋት ("ትህነግን ማጥፋት"፣ "ኦነግን ማጥፋት" የሚለው የኮድ ቋንቋ፣ "ተጋሩን ማጥፋት" ፣ "ኦሮሞን ማጥፋት" ማለት መሆኑ ይሄን ያመለክታል።) ያለመ የክፋት ጦርነት ነው።
